The Dan

I didn’t like the new Moby album the first few times through,
but I’ve since changed my mind.

After the wine fair things get blurry. The Dan was in town, always a treat in
its own, disorienting kind of way. And choosing the last two weeks of the World
Cup to drop in couldn’t have been more perfect. Although surely difficult to
watch from the states, here in Japan it was a huge event. The inexplicable success
of the swift and energetic Korean team ignited the local Korean community into
a frenzied, ebullient throng of red jerseys and jet black hair.

They lost eventually, of course. But they were damn impressive to watch up until
the finals, where they lost to Germany (rather, Kahn) and bowed out.

I’d never a World Cup before. Now I’m hooked.

I also met these guys who carried a football
(soccer ball) overland from the field of the first-ever match all the way to
Korea and Japan, filming and blogging the entire 3 month journey and putting
the whole thing on the web. Fucking amazing, and brilliant mates, too. Chris,
Phil, you’re back home ("ten weeks out, 10 hours back") but missed
here.

The Summer has kicked off to a great start, and looks
to be getting better. I’ll go to the Solstice Festival next weekend, and the
following weekend will travel with a group of writers and photographers to Fuji
Rock Festival to cover it for the full three days. (!!!) I can’t believe I lucked
into it, but Sister Chill has my deep thanks nonetheless. What a blast!

Did I mention how good the new Moby is yet?
